History of RUBIES & FRATS

RUBIES was initially established in the year of 2005 in Pawleys Island, South Carolina by an educator named JoAnn Spencer Thompson. She had a desire to unite young girls and provide opportunities for them to love who God created them to be, and to become “Bold Christians.” Mrs. Thompson’s prayer was to motivate the girls to aspire to be the best they could be and to give back to the community. RUBIES was a Christian Girl’s Club designed to serve girls between the ages of 8-18years of age. Bible principles were taught with the emphases on self-esteem, confidence, and respect. The ultimate goal of RUBIES was to make a difference in a girl’s life by:

1. Opening their minds to learning, and opportunities that the world affords them.
2. Exposing them to women of different ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic statuses.
3. Taking them on adventures of a lifetime that would make a positive difference in their life.

RUBIES was a successful program, as several of the participants moved on to higher education and secured degrees and certifications to better their life. Whereas some of the girls may not have been afforded the opportunity to do such, but as a participant of RUBIES, windows of opportunity were opened to support continuing education. Participants have reached back and shown appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices Mrs. Thompson had made through the RUBIES organization.

In May of 2017, Mrs. Vivian Williams-Wilhite established a program for young males by way of FRATS- Future Regulators Aiming To Succeed. This program is designed to encourage and support young males to become Christian men prepared for leadership in the world. This program targets the age group between 12-20 years of age. Vivian’s passion is to prepare males to be dependable men who lives with a purpose in mind and demonstrates the characteristics of God. Mrs. Williams-Wilhite started desiring an opportunity to prepare young females to understand their value and live to fulfill their purpose as well. However, she had not come up with a program for the females yet.

One day in 2018, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Williams-Wilhite had a dialog about the RUBIES. Mrs. Thompson went on to talk about how she had ended the program in South Carolina, and how the young ladies enjoyed the program. Mrs. Williams-Wilhite was intrigued with the success of the program and decided to give the RUBIES a “re-birth.” Vivian established RUBIES in Fresno, Texas in August 2019. The re-birth of RUBIES and the implementation of FRATS offers a platform for mentoring and coaching for adolescents in the Fresno and Houston areas. These programs are sponsored by a non-profit organization called Women of Prayer, Praise, & Power (WOPPP). The goals of the mentoring and coaching programs are to focus on the whole person and promote life-long stability from a Christian perspective. The programs support cognitive, social, and emotional growth with a primary focus of mental and physical health. As a result of implementing a series of motivational and educational workshops and events, these programs will yield successful results.

What We Offer

We offer programs that focus on positive life skill development.  We promote unity by supporting and encouraging adolescents to have compassionate effective communication and healthy relationships with others.  We have a camaraderie and system of support for those struggling with life’s issues.  We function as a team, not a solo system.  We will work together to create an extraordinary positive impact in society.

Sharing knowledge and experiences with youth who aspire to make positive changes in society.  Failure is no excuse to give up.  You must accept your failures, learn from them, and make changes to move on better.  Your bad choices, and/or mistakes do not depict a true reflection of who you really are.  Regardless to extreme circumstances that you may face, success is always an option.  You are always evolving, life is ever changing, there is no time to be stagnant, keep moving and you’ll get there.  We are committed to teaching you how to complete task in spite of opposition.

Yes, We Care!  We can help you bring ideas into reality.  Don’t allow life’s challenges to prevent you from achieving your educational and professional career goals.  Remember that you are not alone.  It didn’t only happen to you, and it didn’t begin or end with you.
